Estadio Jalisco is the third largest behind Estadio Azteca and Olimpic Stadium in Mexico city.

The facility is located in the city of  400 kilometres north-west of Mexico City and has a maximum capacity of 62,384 fans.

In Dicember 2007  it was announced that a new, 45,000 seat stadium is being built to replace Estadio Jalisco.

ICA, Mexico's biggest engineering and construction firm, said the stadium will cost 833 million peso (US$76.3 million, €51.76 million) and will include children's play areas, a beauty salon, stores, a movie theater and a climbing wall.

This stadium is used mostly for football games, though it has also been used for a short number of shows, such as the Floricienta Show on February 23, 2007.  It is the home ground of las Chivas Team and Atlas Team,  two of the oldest and most prominent football teams in Mexico. This stadium hosted the 1970 Football World Cup and 1986 Football World Cups.

During both of those tourneys the Estadio Jalisco was the temporary home of the Brazilian National Football Team and today remains a liaision between the people of Guadalajara and the Brazilian national team.

The stadium is centrally located in the heart of the neighborhood called Colonia Independencia, and is in front ot the Plaza de Toros Nuevo Progreso ("New Progress" Bullring). Its address is Calle Siete Colinas
No. 1772, Colonia Independencia, C.P. 44290, Guadalajara, Jalisco.

The stadium Jalisco could have a maximum capacity of about 96,000 fans, but the Mexican Federation of Football says the stadiums of Mexico need to reduce capacity for safety reasons that is why currently the stadiums seating capacity is 62,384.

In theFIFA World Cup 1970 which was hosted in Mexico the maximum capacity was 95,261, but later was reduced to make the stadium more secure.
